A taste of Tokyo in the Northern Quarter. NIWA Yakitori is excited to announce its arrival in Manchester. Operating from within North Star Piccadilly on Dale Street, the popular eatery will be transformed from a daytime brunch spot into a cozy, izakaya-style haven by night. At NIWA, we bring you lovingly prepared skewers, grilled to perfection over traditional Japanese Oak Binchotan charcoal, elevating humble ingredients into mouth-watering yakitori delights.

Our house Tare sauce, a key element of our yakitori, has been maturing for almost a year, its flavours deepened through four seasons of cooking trials. We've refined our methods through all conditions, from the warmth of summer to the chill of winter, cooking outdoors in sub-zero temperatures. Our dedication has paid off and has taught us that the magic of yakitori lies in the perfect balance of chicken cuts, seasonings, and charcoal heat. We’ve sourced the finest ingredients to honour Japanese tradition, while infusing our unique personal touch into every dish.

The inspiration for NIWA [which means garden in Japanese] was born from two unforgettable trips to Japan. After discovering the incredibly rich flavours discovered in the tiny backstreet food joints of Tokyo, we dedicated ourselves to mastering the art of yakitori and bringing it to the discerning foodies of Manchester. After countless hours of training, we perfected the precise butchering techniques necessary for preparing each part of the chicken. All the specially prepared pieces are carefully skewered and grilled at high temperatures to seal in the flavour while enhancing the ingredients’ natural tastes.
